The BS EN 13241-1 makes reference to various standards including BS-EN 12453:2001 ( Safety Industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates. Safety in use of power operated doors. Requirements ) These have been in force since 2005 and it sets new standards for the manufacturers of gate systems. Maximum permitted closing forces, extensive documentation and not least, the prescribed initial testing of the whole gate system by an authorized body are just a few of the aspects which make the production of gates seem complicated, inflexible and expensive.
